Optiscan has been featured in Hospital & Healthcare regarding about its collaboration with Monash University to develop next-generation gastrointestinal (GI) flexible endomicroscopes, powered by edge-artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The project aims to integrate Optiscan’s miniature digital microscope, capable of fitting into biopsy channels of most endoscopes, to provide real-time, subcellular-level images.

The AI engine will be used to automatically detect and analyze abnormal cells, allowing clinicians to conduct real-time GI endomicroscopy examinations. This technology will reduce cancer screening times, enhance treatment success rates, and improve patient outcomes.

The project is supported by a Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grant from the Australian Department of Industry, Science, and Resources, with Optiscan receiving a share of the funding.

CEO Dr. Camile Farah said, “This collaboration represents a significant advancement in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, further solidifying Optiscan’s longstanding relationship with Monash University, where our technology was originally developed.”
